Prices
The restoration price is heavily based on the amount of time it will take to restore the image.
This is determined based on several factors & considerations:
>>Amount of Damage<<
The amount of the photo that is damaged. A clean tear on the background will be a much simpler repair than a large amount of creasing, scratching and staining. Sometimes I have to rely on repairing damaged parts of an image by reusing the good parts. The less “good parts” of an image, the longer it will take to restore.
>>Damaged Detail<<
The amount of detail in the damaged areas of the photo is a factor. A crease across a plain background or sky is a quick fix, whereas a tear or peal across a large group picture is not. Damage to the eyes can be particularly time consuming as we tend to look into the eyes when first viewing an image. The less detail I have to work with in the start also means the less detail the final image will have. .
>>Hidden Damage<<
Severely faded images will require a large enhancement to revive the contrast. This also “enhances” any flaws and damage that might be on the image, so there may be more work involved than initially thought. Often on faded photos, freehand dodging and burning must be done, as well as color tinting due to the fact that the color information is too damaged to revive
